Work out your own number

You can get close before anyone visits:

  1. Measure the roof edges that need gutter. Walk the perimeter and pace it if you have nothing else; a pace is roughly three feet.
  2. Multiply by $8–$14 for 6-inch aluminum.
  3. Add downspouts. Figure one per 30–40 feet of run, roughly 10–20 feet of downspout each, at $8–$14 a foot.

A 160-foot single-story home with five downspouts: 160 × $11 = $1,760, plus roughly 70 feet of downspout at $11 = $770. Call it about $2,500. That is the kind of number a real quote should land on.

What moves the price

  • Total run: the single biggest factor, by a distance.
  • Gutter size. 6-inch costs more per foot than 5-inch and is worth it here.
  • One story or two. Two-story work is setup and ladder time, not material.
  • Roofline complexity. Lots of short runs, corners and returns cost more per foot than one long clean elevation.
  • Fascia condition. Nothing hangs properly on soft wood. If it needs repair first you will see photographs and a price before anything proceeds.
  • Extras. Guards, extra downspouts, underground drains, half-round profile.

Why two St. Pete quotes can be far apart

Nearly always one of these, and a national cost guide cannot tell you any of them.

  • Seamless or sectional. Sectional is cheaper and leaks at every lap within a few seasons. Ask which you are being quoted.
  • 5-inch quoted as the default. The cheaper quote is often simply a smaller gutter that will overshoot in a Florida downpour.
  • Hidden hangers or spikes. Spike-and-ferrule is faster and cheaper to fit, and it works loose.
  • Downspout count. Fewer downspouts is a cheaper quote and a gutter that cannot drain. Count them on the quote.
  • Whether the old gutter removal is included or appears later.

Pricing questions

How much do gutters cost for a whole house in St. Pete?

Most single-story St. Petersburg homes come to $1,200–$3,000 for seamless aluminum including downspouts. Two-story or cut-up rooflines run $2,400–$5,000. The figure is driven by total gutter run more than anything else.

Why is gutter priced per foot?

Because that is how it is made: one continuous length rolled to your measurement. Your quote is the total run around the house times a rate, plus downspouts and any extras. It makes quotes easy to compare once you know each company's rate.

How many feet of gutter does a house need?

Measure the roof edges that need it. A typical 1,500 sq ft single-story St. Pete home is usually 140–200 linear feet. At $8–$14 a foot for 6-inch, plus a few downspouts, most of those homes land in the $1,200–$3,000 bracket.

Is 6-inch worth the extra over 5-inch?

In Florida, almost always. It carries about 40 per cent more water and takes 3x4 downspouts that do not clog as easily. The upgrade is a small share of the job cost and it is the difference between coping with a real downpour and overshooting.

What makes a quote come in high?

Two stories, a complicated roofline with many short runs and corners, half-round or copper instead of standard K-style, fascia that needs repair first, and guards added at the same time.
